Dr. Moore provided pro-bono services, twice weekly, to the sick and less fortunate members of the local community into the '50's on H Street—in the same spot that now serves to anyone who's fortunate enough to step into it's doors. For moules, they're the best dang mussels in town and throughout the whole DMV region—the cure works for those who like them anyway they want with the most awesome hearty recipes from Tequila to Sake and spanning the globe for the rest.
With the best fries! We're glad we ordered the small cuz we wanted to savor all the other goodies. They served as comfort food as we navigated the sauces and exquisite flavors included with the mussels and our crispy duck salad.

Wanna talk about the beer? Medicine for the soul of anyone tall, short, from the west, east, buddhist, hummist, black, yellow, green with envy, and all ages. We saw a happy baby bouncing from arm to arm at a hipster table sipping beers as old folks contemplated the body and finish of a tall bottled beer of some sort or another. Cast away your traditions, and get thee to the Doctor, that is Dr. Granville Moore's ASAP, or suffer your own illnesses for another season!

Great place and don't let the decor distract you unless you're ADD or ADHD with or without H or something like that. Get lost in the place and you'll never forget.

What the heck. By truck or by canopy, you can have fresh homemade Latin tacos any time you want in Washington DC. Chupacabra does not disappoint. They also do arepas and rice and been bowls and the ultimate pork and yucca combo.

Don't try to get all fancy on it either. They serve it in "service ware," so there's no square or rectangular artisan dishware—just red plastic baskets, aluminum foil for tacos, napkins. plastic utensils. From the truck that makes perfect sense. From the brick and mortar off 9th and H, it's like a carry out but great outdoor seating and tableside service with European sharing of tables—hybrid dining. Be nice.

Went with a great friend over the weekend. If you like a good Dos Equis or other standard beer you're in luck. The margaritas are premix frozen. They have plenty of disclaimers about this but some folks just like the frozen buzz any way they can get it.

The place was crowded. Yelp reviews are awesome. Do it.
Where can you find a flourescent tube bulb and outdoor fence paint at the last minute in DC without nearing the beltway?

Yes, H Street—Parks Hardware—Duh!

They have one of everything and if they don't have it today, they'll get it for you in the next day or two.

H Street has the truly divine, old-school, shopping at it's finest in this establishment. None of the employees start walking away from you when you come in. Fact: your first time, you might not know who works there and who's hanging out. We're pretty sure the employees do not have to wear smocks with their compay logo.

They're very helpful with questions, and you get to experience some neighborhood banter either in the store or nearby. If any one talks loud, it's not because they're mad at cha or don't want to help you—they're just either bickering amongst themselves or they REALLY DO want you to buy something. Wouldn't you?

Anyway, Parks has at least 3 generations [we think] serving you and you're definitely bound to find what you need. Having awesome coffee houses on both ends of the 400 to 1400 block enhances any stroll down H Street. For example, a "for here" or "to go" cup of Jo can boost your lap-topping productivity in solo, inspire better chattergrams with friends, or help you gingerly step into a brisk walk [you know what we mean]. All Legal.
This week we Spot Light H Street Coffee House & Café. They have a wonderful venue with options to peer out to the street, get lost in a corner, or sit by the counter action. The stunning flagstone tiled bar and espresso maker turns on the aesthetics in us, while backed up by nice lighting, photography, and nifty menu.

At 1359 H St NE, the coffee can be light or bold. Your muffins and breakfasty things much the same—all very good, including French Toast-flavored bagels if you want. Now, segue from the French and Guten Tag!

We discovered that the sandwiches and salads come from the Biergarten Haus—a good thing indeed. They're fresh, original creations, one of the salads had radishes—a nice surprise from some of the more traditional small salads you get elsewhere.

Make yourself a regular to any of the coffee houses on H Street indeed. You won't be disappointed. This weekend at that end, another weekend at the other end. Sidamo's or Batter Bowl Bakery you might be next!

Are you still looking for that chic, quaint, historic, modern, cozy, restaurant—bistro fare in DC? The Liberty Tree works [in case you haven't figured that out already].

You could not ask for a better combination of chefs and input for this New England-inspired fare that includes lobster rolls, mussels, duck sausage, and flatbread pizzas. Nosh, nom, nom, yum—all have there definitions well suited here.

You cannot, do not, ever—think of hoarding your dish. You must share at least one bite. For example, even if you're not a big fan of mac and cheese, wait till you taste your food mate's fork full of lobster mac and cheese. Did you know that mascarpone and truffle sauce are part of the ingredients? Yes. and Yum.

To double-check on something, we did scour the Yelp files for a confirmation that you should not expect small restaurants of this caliber to have the best, five-star-type service but who cares—the food and the love from the kitchen quickly overtakes any hurdles in this area. Besides, isn't it kind of avant–garde to embrace any service—like some people already do in New York, Shanghai, and Paris?

No matter what night of the week, bumping into a friend on the way to The Queen Vic on H or finding a friend there in a patron, patroness, or bartender, server, or mix of all four works every time. We never heard a bad thing about The Vic—although several bad jokes and some ugly-named foods do surface every once in a while to challenge us. Haggis for example. [You can tell your own bad jokes.]

Speaking of curtains and iron. Wow, the place is incredibly well appointed in the modern flare but does not make anyone feel less than at home.

We visited friends once there, and what were they doing? Sharing spectacularly prepared foods, some healthy choices, some delicate, and some scrumptiously hearty. The place is not just for the British o files. There's something for everyone. All your friends. Going solo always works as well with a premium seat at the bar that might end up being given up for a table with friends.

If you haven't gone, go. If you have, go again!
Combos @ Crown 716 H StreetLocations [H Street Live!] HOME [H Street Live!]

Holy Cow! and Fowl! This find on H is a must go when you're in the mood for the perfect old-school Grrrrr ub. Catch and Turf in combos under $5 dollars. You've got to be kidding. We're not!

The stuff that comes from within the purple neon, not only complements the eclectic 8th and H shuffle of buses—the 90s, the X2s, and the soon to be Trolleys—but also we say izz the authentic real deal.

In a post "Happy Hour" slumber down H Street with dog [not that drunk but hungry], this place is an awesome find or rediscover, especially because they do take plastic behind their infamous plexi-glass carousel payment booth. You might as well treat whoever you're with or standing near if you can.

What goes on beyond the foggy haze, cannot be told but what emerges is to behold. Yes, the double-cheeseburger combo loaded—grilled onions, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, and more stuff probably—and fries that stack haughtily against the big three—Micky D, The King, and Wendy. Simply stunning, with a brand-named soda too, we like!!!

Can I have a Yum! No, not Yums, but a real yum. Amen. We're going back!!!
[Live on H Street]

Locations [H Street Live!] HOME [H Street Live!]

Ok, Sharia don't like it, "Rock the Casbah!" but this is the Cusbah, Sharia might like it! At least we did, a couple of non-rockin' mixed religion and race, adopted third and forth generation wannabe old money, had the should-have-been normal, kinda Cherokee in there somewhere kinda folks—Saturday night couple on H Street [Live!]—probably gay or straight or a little in between. We liked the drinks!

Cusbah, right on the corner of 12th and H. Yes, food, jazz, company, a good sound system—sometimes live, sometimes damn good selections by the VJ, DJ, or maybe just a mix from Pandora. Who knows? So we had a lovely time, the whole experience, flexible, real, incredibly good food, drinks, and company.

Here's the deal, they do South Asian like—if it ain't good we're fired. The most incredibly scrumptious standards like samosas and palak paneer all done exquisitely and served with an unassuming, this ain't no steam table "ish." This stuff is better than your Grandma's—and please don't slap her—we're just doing what we know is right live on H Street.

Did you see the summer time pass-through bar to the street at this place? It was cold and not open in March. But OMG, sipping jalapeño seasoned drinks on a hot day there? Who cares about Casablanca romance—we're not even close—if you can have it all on H Street any time you want!

We do, and want you to do too. Next time, we'll wait 'till the base playa (see photo, probably not a playa) warms up for live jazz on a Thursday night or Reggae on a Sat true dat day instead of being diverted by all the other stimulation on H Street. Make up your mind, gosh darn it!!!

Kudos to Cusbah!Professor Chuck E Boobensteinhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02348290238354063478noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5416028011517455896.post-10074116866660399892013-12-23T04:30:00.000-08:002013-12-23T05:06:18.465-08:00The Twelve Days of H!

Can you keep up? Well, we tried after being diverted on a Friday night to the third floor of Smith Commons! Way after the dinner hour—so don't expect luscious food commentary—we'll admit the menu looks awesome and a personal favorite of our President, yes the POTUS a modis [see photo]. He made it a dinner date last year and we can't stop finding pictures of him at the Commons in Google searches. Ok, we the people—yes we're a little smitten as H Street "o" filials.

Music, yes good hard-driving variety—soul, oldies, newies, trancy, dancy, they have it all—wonder who's spinning these gems. We have a hunch they catered to the moment or just got lucky with us. Please let us know.

Drinks—oh yeah—they have the best glassware in town and they also fill them with nice tidy concoctions that don't squeeze your purse too much.

Fun and chance spontaneity, you can also relax in a big ole chair if you don't feel like chatting loud at the bar or posing or lingering [not lurking] near the many doorways, stairways, entries, exits, balconies, decks—yes, a little cruise if you want [please leave the handsome bar tender alone]. However, if you're really looking for a time out, you can sit in one of those chairs on the second or third floor and microblog on Twitter and LOL or Like all your friends' Facebook statuses.

It's going to be a while yet. Likely around March 2014. [sigh] On the bright side, there will be Half Smokes on H Street for the next festival and during the summer!

Ben's purchased the building on the corner of 10th and H that housed a men's clothing shop. It takes a lot of work to go from retail to restaurant. It'll be worth it though! Seats for 272 people! And that delicious menu that is Ben's.

The mouth-watering Half Smoke, smothered in
chili. You know it's DC's signature food, right? It's gonna be sooooooo good!

And maybe, just maybe [H Street] will become the celebrity visiting spot. Bill Cosby, President Obama both love Ben's. How could they not love H Street too?

So, faithful readers, we've got some time to
wait before popping down to H and 10th for some great Half Smokes. But, it's worth the wait!Mia Vitale http://www.blogger.com/profile/11074274789376353391noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5416028011517455896.post-75949189138450058312013-09-19T08:56:00.000-07:002013-09-19T08:56:41.789-07:00H Street Festival arrives.....In just over 48 hours, H Street will be teaming with people instead of cars as [H Street Festival] arrives for 2013. Go ahead, cheer! It's gonna be a great day of fun, food, friends, music, crafts, entertainment (both professional and likely by your friends as well).
No, no ~ not without a leash. Give your precious pooch a mid-day break with a walk from Metro Mutts. It's no fun for Fido to be locked up all day while you're at work so you can bring home the kibble. So give him or her a break.

Persnickety pet that you worry about with someone new? No problem! Metro Mutts can handle that persnickety pal of yours. Honest! How do I know? Well, let me introduce you to Chuck E [aka The Professor]. The Professor is a beautiful dog, but
can be a bit, um.....anxious. He's also very much a one-man dog. The Professor loves Metro Mutts dog walkers! He doesn't even mind when his person takes a trip. [Okay, he minds, but not as much with his Metro Mutts pal visiting].

Need some special meow time for the cat in your life? Metro Mutts also provides Cat sitting services.

You can also find all the toys, food, chews, beds and creature comforts your special family members could want. The best thing? Fido or Fluffy can join you in the store to pick out their favorite things.

Metro Mutts even offers events for your pals! Check out their website here for more information about events, products and services available. You'll be so glad to have Metro Mutts in the [ H Street Hood]!
And just for kicks, get to know more about the Professor. He's a famous pooch in the H Street hood. Built in 1938 with 1000 seats The Atlas's first movie was Mickey Rooney in Love Finds Andy Hardy. Since then, The Atlas lights have graced [H Street], showing movies through 1976. Like most of the H Street corridor, The Atlas suffered the seeming death of the area for years. Shuttered, graffitied and rundown, it served as a reminder of better times in the Atlas District.

Now, The Atlas is back and way beyond showing movies. [Live] theatre, music, dance, movies, art and more tickle your senses and please your desire for entertainment on many levels.

Right now, Oscar Wilde's play, Salome is on display through mid August. Check ticket prices and other upcoming events here.

There is also a cafe to refresh you with various drinks and treats. Want to get your culture fix and dinner or lunch or brunch. The Atlas Room is close by and other great eateries are also in the neighborhood.
